A FotoFacial™ treatment uses a series of gentle pulsed light treatments that will help you achieve a youthful vitality and skin rejuvenation. A FotoFacial™ treatment requires no-downtime, and is an outpatient procedure. Treatments are performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands —any place on your body that you wish to improve uneven pigment. This procedure is quick, safe, and effective without any downtime. • What is a FotoFacial™?

A FotoFacial™, also commonly known as photofacial, is a series of intense pulsed light (IPL), infrared (IR), laser and/or radio frequency (RF) energy all combined in the same pulse.

These pulses are applied in a series of quick and gentle applications over the desired area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels and brown pigmentation. Heat damages the vessel or lesion, and in response to this damage, the body initiates its natural healing process. The lesion will likely darken before it eventually falls off, or the body may absorb it. Treatment can be given in three-week intervals until the desired aesthetic result is achieved.

  • Who is a FotoFacial™ Candidate?

The most ideal candidates for a FotoFacial will have the following:

    • Fair skin that has not been tanned
    • Skin that has regained a degree of elasticity
    • Skin that has pigmentation caused by aging, medication or sun damage
    • Fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging
    • Shallow acne scarring or large pores
    • A dissatisfaction with skin’s appearance
    • Willingness to maintain a treatment schedule for desired results

Phoenix individuals who have more sever skin conditions or deeper wrinkles, or scarring should consider other types of skin rejuvenation procedures that can offer more dramatic results. FotoFacial™ treatments are ideal for progress over time, as collagen is produced and the skin heals naturally. However, it is possible to see results after the first treatment.

  • The FotoFacial™ Treatment Process

Treatments may take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area that needs to be treated with the FotoFacial laser. The bigger the area being treated, the longer the session will last.

When receiving a treatment, the area is first cleansed and a cool-feeling gel is applied to the area that will be getting treated. When the treatment process begins and the laser first touches the skin, Phoenix patients report that the sensation is similar to the snapping of a rubber band. Once the FotoFacialtreatment is completed, your skin will be cleansed and a high SPF sunscreen will be applied. If your skin is sensitive, a cool compress may be applied following the laser treatment to alleviate some residual irritation.

  • The Benefits of a FotoFacial™ Treatment

Phoenix patients are often very satisfied with their results after receiving a FotoFacial from Dermacare Plastic Surgery. Benefits you can expect to see with the treated area are a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size, and fine lines. After each FotoFacial treatment, you will begin to see improvements in skin texture and skin rejuvenation.

Those with more advanced sun damage may elect to have a more aggressive treatment that addresses not only pigment, but also sun damaged skin texture: photo rejuvenation is best for advanced sun damage with pre-cancerous lesions (actinic keratosis).

  • What Results You Should Expect After Your FotoFacial™ Treatment?

All of our Dermacare Plastic Surgery patients noticed some improvement in the appearance of their skin. The amount of aesthetic improvement is gradual and persistent over the course of the desired treatment process. Significant changes that have been reported include: Improvement in pink and brown discoloration, spider veins, pink and brown blemishes, sun damage, age spots, pore size, acne scarring and wrinkles. It’s important to keep in mind that the degree of improvement can vary from patient to patient.
