Dr. Rod grew up in Wisconsin but ventured to Missouri to obtain his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis. With a minor in German, he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1996.
Remembering his roots, he returned to Wisconsin to attend medical school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, graduating in 2001. Dr. Rod then completed his surgical residency at the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency Program where he trained for five years in general and vascular/trauma surgery.

After graduating from the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Rod returned to Arizona in July 2008 to open a private practice in Phoenix. At the same time, he began as a clinical instructor in the Division of Plastic and Hand Surgery with the Maricopa Integrated Health System Surgical Residency Program. Dr. Rod earned his board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2009, which has long been recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Dr. Rod is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Rod has also taught a course to prepare other plastic surgeons to pass the oral board examination, which is the last examination that a plastic surgeon must pass to become certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
