Background of Fillers

In 2015 there were 2.4 million filler procedures performed which is up 6% from 2014 and 274% since 2000.  The reason that fillers are popular is because they are less expensive and more accessible than surgery.  Fillers are not permanent so patients are less anxious about long term effects.   At Dermacare, patients have access to the best injectors and products on the market.

One area that’s especially difficult to treat are laugh lines.  As skin loses elasticity with age, the lines that run from the sides of your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corner of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines) appear more noticeable.

What are Refyne and Defyne?

Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are fillers intended to correct deeper wrinkles and folds in the laugh lines. As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form.

The same company that makes Refyne also makes Restylane, Sculptra, and Dysport, has just announced FDA approval of Restylane Refyne for the treatment of moderate wrinkles and folds from the nose to mouth.

Although there are other fillers on the market that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, Refyne is meant to give a more natural-looking look.  In fact, it is the only filler on the market that have been shown in clinical trials to help maintain natural movement and expressions.
Caren, an injection specialist at Dermacare says, “I’ve been monitoring the results that [Refyne] have been getting in other countries and couldn’t wait for it to make it to the US.  It’s finally here and I couldn’t be more excited.  Refyne gives some of the most natural results you can get from fillers.  They help smooth away hard to treat laugh lines which are the wrinkles and folds at the sides of your nose and run down toward the corners of your mouth.”
The FDA trials showed an improvement in wrinkle severity for up to twelve months in most patients.  Investigators reported that 79% of Refyne users had an improvement in their wrinkles after six weeks.  In another study, 97% of people that used the product were satisfied with their treatment results and would recommend it again.

What’s the difference between Refyne and Defyne?

Restylane Refyne is a specifically formulated hyaluronic acid dermal filler made with XpresHAn Technology™ that helps correct these lines for a more natural look to your face.  The unique cross-linking of the gel in Restylane Refyne is also designed to help support your natural expression—for real-life results that help maintain natural movement when you’re smiling, frowning and even puckering up.

Defyne is crafted with XpresHAn Technology™ to correct deepened lines. The unique cross-linking of the gel in Defyne is also designed to help support your facial expressions for natural-looking results that help maintain your natural movement.

What is XpresHAn Technology?

XpresHAn Technology creates a smooth, injectable gel that can give your skin natural-looking results. It customizes the degree of HA crosslinking in each product, resulting in gels with a range of flexibility and support characteristics for different patient needs.  This makes Refyne is very flexible and provide subtle support, while Defyne is designed to be less flexible and provide additional support.
