  • Saline Breast Implants: Saline Breast Implants are a type of implant used for Breast Augmentation plastic surgery. This type of implant is filled with sterile salt water. Saline breast implants provide a uniform shape, firmness and feel to the breasts. These implants are FDA-approved for Breast Augmentation in woman age 18 or older. If the implant shell ever leaks, a saline implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body.
  • Silicone Breast Implants: Silicone breast implants are another type of implant used for Breast Augmentation surgery. Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel that feels a bit more like natural breast tissue. If you decide on silicone breast implants for your Breast Augmentation surgery, you may need to schedule regular visit with Dr. Rod to make sure the implants are functioning properly. During these regular visits, an ultrasound or MRI screening will be used to assess the condition of the breast implants. If the implant ever leaks, the gel may remain within the implant shell, or may escape into the breast implant pocket. A leaking implant filled with silicone gel will not collapse. Silicone Breast Implants are FDA-approved for Breast Augmentation surgery in women age 22 or older.
  • Gummy Bear Breast Implants: Form-Stable Implants, or Gummy Bear Breast Implants, are a type of implant used for Breast Augmentation surgery. They are known as “Gummy Bear Breast Implants” because they maintain their shape even when the implant shell is broken. The implant is filled with silicone gel that is thicker than the gel found in traditional Silicone Gel Implants. These implants are also more firm than traditional implants, but they are believed to be the implant that is least likely to break. These breast implants are shaped rather than round, have more projection at the bottom, and are tapered towards the top. If the shaped breast implant rotates, it may lead to unusual breast appearance. It is also important to mention that the placement of Gummy Bear Implants requires a longer incision in the skin.
  • Round Breast Implants: Round Breast Implants, another type of implant used in Breast Augmentation surgery, have a tendency to make breasts appear much more full than the Form-Stable Implants. There is less concern with the implant rotating out of place because it is the same shape all over.
  • Smooth Breast Implants: The softest feeling breast implant is the Smooth Breast Implant, an implant used in Breast Augmentation surgery. These implants can move with the breast implant pocket, which gives your breast more natural movement. An important thing to note about Smooth Breast Implants is that they may have some palpable or visible rippling.
  • Textured Breast Implants: Textured Breast Implants are a unique type of breast implant used for Breast Augmentation surgery. What makes this implant unique is that it develops scar tissue to stick to the implant, which makes them less likely to move around inside of the breast or get repositioned. Texturing Breast Implants offer a few advantages because they diminish the risk of a tight scar capsule.

There are multiple factors that will play a part in determining the placement of your breast implants. Your anatomy and Dr. Rod’s recommendations will be the ultimate deciding factor how your breast implant is inserted and positioned during your Breast Augmentation surgery. The implant is placed in a pocket either underneath the pectoral muscle (located between the breast tissue and chest wall) or underneath the breast tissue and on top of the pectoral muscle. It is important to know that when an implant is placed underneath the pectoral muscle, it will interfere less with mammograms and breast-feeding.
