When is a good time for a face lift?

At Dermacare Cosmetic Surgery patients have face lifts throughout the year but some months are more popular than others.   There are many people that live in Arizona seasonally.  As “snowbirds” arrive from Canada and northern states to enjoy some of the nicest weather in the country, the population in Arizona goes up. In the fall, winter, and spring there are just more people in the Arizona area so Dr. Rod performs more face lifts during this period.   There are other reasons that cause others to choose to have a face lift during this time as well.  Children return to school, family holiday dinners are starting to come up, and some have vacation time that expires at the end of the year that needs to be used or lost. Besides the practicality of have a face lift when it’s cooler, there are other benefits.  The sunlight is less intense which makes it easier to protect your healing skin from exposure.  The reduced temperature allows recovering patients to cover up with bulkier clothes which attracts less attention.   Unlike the body which is easier to cover up, the face is more difficult to hide bandages and healing incisions.  For this reason, […]

Turning Back the Clock with Phoenix Sculptra ® Aesthetic

Phoenix, AZ–  As early as 2004, doctors were using Sculptra to reduce the signs of facial wasting in chronic disease such as HIV with great success.  At Dermacare Cosmetic Surgery, patients are using Sculptra to reduce the signs of aging without surgery.  Recently, we sat down with Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Reza Rod so he could answer our questions about Sculptra Aesthetic. Question: How can a filler make your patients look younger? Dr. Rod: We tend to equate being thin with youth, but when it comes to the face, the opposite is true. Think of a what a baby looks like with his full, thick skin. The extra fat and tissue of the baby’s skin causes it to be smooth and soft. By the time someone is elderly, the skin becomes thin and losses its fullness. As we age, the fullness of the skin is lost which causes wrinkles and bones to appear. Few realize that fullness is the essence of youth in the face.   Question: How does it work? Dr. Rod: Sculptra Aesthetic differs from other aesthetic injectables because it revs up your skin’s collagen production. This helps restore your skin from the inside out by increasing facial volume […]

What can I Expect from Tickle Lipo?

Most of us have parts of our body that we’d like to improve. Even if we exercise and eat well, we can still have problem areas. Some learn to live with their pockets of stubborn fat and some have liposuction. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were about 414 thousand liposuction cases in 2016. That makes it the most popular surgical procedure in the US.…by far. The reason that liposuction is so popular is because it works. Tickle Lipo Arizona is a simple concept that removes fat to make a person look thinner. Dr. Rod explains, “Once people decide to get lipo, they quickly discover that there are many options that all claim to be the best. Even as a plastic surgeon, I had to do try every form of liposuction before I found that Tickle Lipo works best.” Tickle Lipo doesn’t get near the advertising that other forms of lipo do but it really doesn’t need it. When patients experience Tickle Lipo they tell their friends, family, and co-workers. Dr. Rod says, “My patients are walking advertisements and they love their results. Compared to most forms of liposuction, Tickle Lipo has less bruising, less swelling, […]

Dermacare Introduces New Alto Defense Serum

You may be familiar with the term “free radical damage,” but what you might not know is that your skin is constantly exposed to free radicals, even if you’re not spending hours in the sun. That’s because sources of oxidative stress and damage from free radicals include much more than just UV rays, although they are a large contributor. For example, if you live in an urban setting, the air pollution that constantly bombards your skin can lead to free radical damage. Cigarette smoke and visible and infrared light also contribute to oxidative stress.  Living in Arizona, especially during the summer, is extremely difficult on your skin.  The skin expects at Dermacare Cosmetic Surgery are excited to have Alto Defense Serum to help their patient’s skin combat the Arizona Sun. And, most important to consider, sunscreens do not have the ability to neutralize or short-circuit free radicals.  So what can you do to help keep you protected from free […]

Why is the Brazilian Butt Lift so Popular in Arizona?

The popularity of the Kardashians and Jennifer Lopez has caused buttock augmentation to become one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgical procedures performed in Arizona. In 2016, there were 18,489 Brazilian Butt Lifts preformed which is 26% more than the previous year according to  Plastic Surgery Statistics.   What is a Brazilian Butt Lift? A Brazilian Butt Lift is when fat is taken from the body and moved to the buttocks to enhance and or increase its size.  During your consultation with Dr. Rod, the best donor site for your fat will be determined.  Normally fat is removed from the abdomen with liposuction and transferred to the buttocks.   It should be noted, however, that donor fat can be taken several other parts of the body. A nice perk of the Brazilian Butt Lift is that it’s two procedures in one; butt augmentation and liposuction.  The butt lift increases the volume of the buttocks which simultaneously provides a lift to the area resulting in a shapely and plump backside.  Dr. Rod says, “Tickle lipo of the flanks, back, and abdomen during the Brazilian Butt Lift accentuate the hourglass shape of a woman’s body.  The procedure gets more popular every year.” More Information […]

Chemical Peel from Mary at Dermacare

Chemical peels are used to treat a variety of skin issues like acne, wrinkles, discoloration and to maintain a glowing complexion. They come in a variety of strengths and combinations. It is important to seek the guidance of a professional in a medical environment to achieve the desired results and to avoid severe complications. If a chemical peel is acquired through a compounding pharmacy by a licensed physician, it is medical grade. Most chemical peels used in day spas or salons come from skincare companies and they are prepackaged. Although these types of peels are safe, they may have ingredients that can weaken the effects of the chemicals. This can make it more difficult to get the desired results from a chemical peel, as well as increase overall cost from requiring more treatments to achieve good results. If you want to see results from your chemical peel in Phoenix, come to Dermacare Cosmetic Surgery. You may experience a warm, tingling or a burning sting during the application. If you have sensitive skin, you may take Ibuprofen prior to treatment to help relieve any discomfort. After application of the peel, your skin should frost (appear white). This will subside shortly and […]
